Research Project Manager

The Position

ATAC has an opening for a Research Project Manager.  This is a full-time position and is located in Arlington, Virginia. The successful candidate will lead and participate on research and analysis projects such as FAA Systems Engineering 2025 (SE2025), NASA Research Announcements (NRA), and Airport Cooperative Research Projects (ACRP).  In addition, they will apply and contribute to the development and maintenance of state-of-the-art aviation analysis tools including the FAA’s Performance Data Analysis and Reporting System (PDARS).
Responsibilities will include:

  • NextGen and NextGen modeling and analysis research projects
  • Airport and airspace operational, safety, environmental, and business analysis studies
  • Technical and management presentations and technical report writing
  • Development of project requirements in coordination with customers
  • Development of project plans, work tasks, and deliverables
  • Project management tasks including scope, time, and cost management
  • Supervision of project personnel, including subcontractors
  • Management of customer relationships for each project, with a focus on complete customer satisfaction
  • Development of project proposals in coordination with business partners
  • A background check will be required for this position.

Qualifications

ATAC is looking for career-minded people with the potential to grow professionally, provide technical expertise and assume project management responsibilities.
Required attributes include: 

  • Management experience in projects involving researching, planning, integrating and implementation of complex systems and equipment, preferably aviation-related;
  • A Master’s Degree with 5+ years’ project management experience in aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering, operations research, applied mathematics or physics or a Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of directly related management experience;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relations skills;
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.

In addition, the ideal candidate is a team player, open to new ideas, technologies and development methodologies, thinks both logically and creatively, and approaches problems and problem solving with a positive and constructive attitude.
